That 'bird' was sitting on a tree in the exclosure one early morning.. No idea what it is, but enjoyed it.
Gecko living around my tent catching insects in the night when my light is on..
We found these young male and a female right one early morning on the dirt road to the exclosures.
Those guys were having a 'lobola' party, wearing traditional cloths. Lobola is the ceremony where a man pays cows or in some cases cash to the parents of his future wife. The lobola can include excessive partying and usually takes a couple of days. The happy folks on the bakkie overtook me on the road showing their excitement when they saw I'm taking pictures.
Your gecko is sweeeet. How's life so far Hannes? Busy fieldwork? Ciao!
ReplyDeleteTried looking up you big bird. I would say it is a "Raubadler" (tawny eagle, Aquila rapax). It lives in whole south and east Africa, with different kinds and a varied calor mix of browns.
ReplyDeleteWell, but your picture shows a bird with black endings of wings and tail, which could also be the very close relative "Steppenadler" (steppe eagle, Aquila nipalensis). Problem, that one does live rather in northern Asia, while it spends its winter in eastern Africa. So it might have come a little too much south... Another winter guest you have there and who looks very similar is the smalles of all eagles, the "Schreiadler" (lesser spotted eagle, Aquila pomarina). It breeds in eastern Europe and around the black sea, and spends the winter in the south of Africa. Was it rather 60-70cm, or 50-60cm?
Found all on Wikipedia, haha, have a look yourself. This is what i sometimes lose my time with ... :)
Your Schnuckie
HANNES! You were next to a LION and many BUFFALOS on the road! crazy guy.. But I'm jalous! :) can you bring me a lion for my next birthday? :D the gecko looks also very sweet.
ReplyDeleteHere in The Netherlands the rain season (you may call it monsoon) has started: it hailed and rained so much! feels already like winter..
